Apartment Review for Lanai Apartments - Little Rock, AR

Our stay at Lanai began well, we were given what seemed to be a fair price for a large apartment. Only upon staying in the building after the first couple months did the problems become apparent. The appliances and cabinets/doors/closets in the apartments are of the shoddiest quality. Every door in our apartment was thin and flimsy except for the front door, which stuck on the frame. Over the course of two summers my wife and I complained about our ancient air conditioner unit outside our apartment. It never cooled the rooms down to an adequate level in the intense Arkansas summers, and the AC unit itself was rusty, rattled when it ran, and had wires sticking out of it! Our electric bill in the summer was consistently over $300 to cool our 1-bedroom unit!!! We told the management over 7 times about our dissatisfaction with the AC unit, and were told repeatedly it would be replaced. Of course it never was. Every time our lease ran up, they tried to raise our rent despite our poor satisfaction level. When we first leased the apartment, we were told they had a pool and it would be opening in a "month or two," instead that summer the pool was torn out and filled in with dirt. The pool area is now the reserved place for animals to use the bathroom. The laundry facilities are approximately a half mile from our apartment, and we spend over $30 a month on laundry. There were no washer/dryer hookups in our apartment, although we were told in our checklist on moving in that these were provided. Over five automobiles were stolen out of our parking lot during our 18 month residency here, and no actions were taken to increase the security of our parking area. On moving in we were told that they were working toward completing the gates around the complex, and starting a keycard system to increase security, of course this never occurred either. Recently, my wife and I were doing some spring cleaning, and sat out 2 bags of trash outside our apartment (they are outdoor apartments, so the trash was outside our door, not in a hallway). Within two hours we had a curt note on our door telling us "this trash *must* be moved*." In short, we were treated like a nuisance, and I would not recommend Lanai apartments to anyone hoping for a safe and comfortable living experience in the Little Rock area.
